Here are the steps on how to create a visual schedule with your child:
1.) Choose a format
* Paper chart
* Whiteboard
* Magnetic board
* Digital tool or app
2.) Choose the activities
* Based on child's age and abilities
* Include structured activities (study, school, bath, etc)
* Include unstructured activities (free play or reward)
Use the chosen format to create a visual representation of the schedule. If you're using a whiteboard or paper chart, draw or print pictures or symbols for each activity and arrange them in the order they will occur. If you're using a digital tool or app, input the activities and choose corresponding images or icons.
Place the schedule where it is visible and easily accessible to your child. Encourage them to use the schedule to move more independently throughout their day, giving them feelings of security and confidence.
Celebrate successes and milestones, and continue to adjust the schedule as needed to support your child's growth and development. When children know what is coming next, there is less confusion and less room to challenge expectations.
After you are complete visual schedule share it with your friends in the LeapForLearning community by clicking on the share button below. We look forward to seeing your visual schedule!
